"The human mind is the last unexplored continent on earth."

Earl Nightingale

What are the pillars of material success? What would I have to do to wrap my mind around the idea of accomplishing success? Faith is a concept that many of us associate with religion, and therefore remove it from our daily lives.

But, when you think about it, everything you do is based on faith. When you get into your automobile and drive to work, you take it for granted that when you put the key into the ignition, the engine will start and when you put you foot on the paddle, the car will move. You have done that so many times that there is no doubt in your mind.

There are so many things that we take for granted. But the beginning of them was faith. You planted a seed of faith and it  grew, and now you know. When we were younger, we planted a whole lot more seeds than we do as adults. The majority of time in our adult life is spent being cynical, critical, and unbelieving.

What would happen if you started planting some more seeds in your life? What seeds would you plant: Seeds of prosperity? Seeds of good health? Seeds of great relationships? Seeds of a spiritual life? The main question is why?

Therefore Purpose becomes the first pillar of success. If you have a strong enough “why”, the universe will provide you with the how. What is your purpose in life? Most people live their lives without a purpose. They go from day to day just following others. Make a decision to define your purpose today. Write it down. Think about it.

You might say, how do I define my purpose? How do I get to the point where I say, this is my purpose? You might want to follow a method that Stephen Covey calls, beginning with the end in mind. That means, figure out what you want people to say about you at your funeral (if you are planning to have one!). At the end of your life, what would you want to have accomplished?

The next pillar of success is Vision. Vision is your ability to “see” the future. People who have faith have vision because faith is “the ability to perceive what is not yet revealed to the senses”. This is the ability to see the finished product. Visualise the finished product even before you start. Don’t focus on the problems, otherwise they will distract you. Just focus on the finished product. Vision, like Purpose, is an intangible thing. It is a faculty of the mind.

The next pillar is goals. Goals encompass your physical action plan. Of the three pillar of success, this is the only tangible part, but you can’t lose sight of the Purpose and the Vision because those are your guiding principles.

Your goals will tell you what you need to do today. Unless you do something, nothing will move.
